List of Childrens Classic Books

$71.7

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A list of the most important childrens books, which were published at least 90 years ago, and were written for children and/or are still enjoyed by children today. One Thousand and One Nights is a collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights, from the first English language edition (1706), which rendered the title as The Arabian Nights Entertainment. The work as we have it was collected over many centuries by various authors, translators and scholars across the Middle East and North Africa. The tales themselves trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic, Persian, Indian, Egyptian and Mesopotamian folklore and literature. In particular, many tales were originally folk stories from the Caliphate era, while others, especially the frame story, are most probably drawn from the Pahlavi Persian work Haz r Afs n which in turn relied partly on Indian elements. Childrens Laureate

Childrens Laureate

$86.03

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Childrens Laureate is a position awarded in the UK once every two years to a distinguished writer or illustrator of childrens books. A biannual bursary of 10,000 is offered. The idea for the Childrens Laureate originated from a conversation between (the then) Poet Laureate Ted Hughes and childrens writer Michael Morpurgo. A panel of judges considers nominations from a range of organisations representing librarians, critics, writers and booksellers, including the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). They also consider authors and illustrators nominated directly by children. The award is funded by the MLA (Museums, Libraries and Archives Council) and a range of other publishing industry and charity sector sponsors. Its main sponsor is Waterstones, the UKs largest bookseller. The award was previously sponsored by Ottakars before the companies merged. Childrens Literature Canon

Childrens Literature Canon

$135.42

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles As with adult literature, the validity of defining a canon of worthy or renowned works in childrens literature is hotly debated. Nevertheless, many books have had enormous impact on publishing history and are still in print today. Due to the didactic nature of much childrens publishing, in which the majority of books are written, published, selected, and taught by adults but consumed by children (Nodelman 1992), the childrens literature canon is extremely powerful in influencing the books actually read. Childrens literature is for readers and listeners up to about age twelve and is often illustrated. The term is used in senses which sometimes exclude youngadult fiction, comic books, or other genres. Books specifically for children existed by the 17th century. Scholarship on childrens literature includes professional organizations, dedicated publications and university courses. The World Market for Childrens Picture, Drawing, or Coloring Books

The World Market for Childrens Picture, Drawing, or Coloring Books

This report was created for strategic planners, international executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for printed books, brochures, leaflets, and similar printed matter in single sheets. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for printed books, brochures, leaflets, and similar printed matter in single sheets for those countries serving the world market via exports or supplying from various countries via imports. I do so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

Childrens Literature and the Politics of Equality

Childrens Literature and the Politics of Equality

$54.86

This book seeks to help teachers ensure that children develop an awareness of the prejudice expressed in books and other reading material that they encounter. Political correctness in this area is easily caricatured, yet more needs to be done to ensure that childrens books deal fairly with bias in relation to gender, race, language disability, and age. The author reviews recent work which aims to counter prejudice in childrens literature and traces the historical and theoretical basis of this work. Equality issues and stereotyping in a wide range of books old and new, popular and classic are also discussed. The focus throughout the text is on the practical ways in which teachers and librarians can help children to develop an awareness of bias, so that they are less likely to adopt the prejudices consciously or subconsciously expressed by the authors they experience. Childrens Literature in Malaysian Primary Schools

Childrens Literature in Malaysian Primary Schools

$181.62

The Contemporary Childrens Literature Program (CCL) was introduced into English classes in Malaysian primary schools in 2003 with the aim of improving English language teaching through the introduction of storybooks or childrens literature. A study was done to examine issues in the implementation of the CCL program in three primary schools in the city of Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. Findings revealed that the various stakeholders had positive views about the program. However, there were reservations about the extent and speed in which the program was being implemented. Apart from that, problems were also identified with the cascade model of training used to prepare teachers for the implementation of the program. Issues regarding program monitoring, the absence of studentcentred learning, and limited number of books and delays in the deliverance of books created management problems for the schools. Nevertheless, this is characteristic of new programmes which have yet to be fully developed and the main benefit of introducing childrens literature in ESL classrooms will definitely outweigh all these initial shortcomings.
